Xaviar
Cugat Orchestra
Show Orchestra
When the decision
was taken by Xavier Cugat to form a new
orchestra and carry on the Latin-American
tradition he fostered in America, the question
of who would direct the group, as expected,
posed the most difficult problem. He wisely
chose a protege of his, Ada Cavallo, a trained
musician, exciting vocalist and deft dancer of
charismatic charm who also possessed leadership
qualities and understood both cultures; one who
could produce, maintain and present the Cugat
legend to today’s audiences.
Born in Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic, Ms. Cavallo is the
daughter of a Spanish father and Italian mother. Music runs
in her blood. Her late father was a Symphony
Orchestra soloist and teacher at the
Conservatory of Music of the Dominican Republic,
where she trained as a concert pianist and
classical singer. Ms. Cavallo came to
the United States to further her studies and
attended the Peabody Institute of Music in
Baltimore, where she studied classical piano and
voice.
Today's Xaviar Cougat Orchestra
offers an exciting delight for the senses,
displaying the best of traditional Latin
rhythms, sights and sounds. |
